What is Low-FODMAP diet?

Sep 10, 2021

Low-FODMAP diet is a slightly complicated, but very efficient diet in digestive work. It involves limiting weak carbs to be perched and fermentable, known by the name of FODMAP, for a certain period of time, from 4 to 6 weeks.

This phase of elimination is then followed by a return phase. The body, after a temporary challenge, is able to react to a food that causes the effect called Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

But what does the name FODMAP mean? In fact, FODMAP is an acronym of words:

Fermentable– Fermented

Oligosaccharides:Oligosakaridet are carbs which have 3-10 simple sugars tied together. They are found naturally in fructans and galakto-olisakarides found in wheat, buckwheat, onions, garlic, braids and other foods.

Disaccharides/disacarides are carbohydrates that are also called double sugars and have important functions in human diet as primary energy sources. These may be of plant origin, such as sugar sugarcane saharoza and maltose present, and of animal origin such as lactose present in mammal milk.

Monosaccharides/Monosakarides, fructose found in foods such as watermelon and peas.

Polyols, including sorbioli, mannitol and xylitol found in plums apples, chewing gums etc.

This diet has resulted in efficiently in people who have problems with the digestive device system, and the processing of natural carbohydrates found in some foods.

Keep in mind that this diet should be administered by a doctor’s advice. In case the doctor recommended such a diet as in our case (5 years ago), you can also download the app named ′′ Monash University Fodmap Diet “, which costs 12 $.

In our case, the diet turned out to be very efficient, but always keep in mind that each of us is different.
